Speaker Bios
Ralph Turfus is an accomplished technology entrepreneur who has spent three decades in the IT sector. Most recently, he was founder and CEO of Class Software, a leading developer of software for municipal government. In 2004, Class was acquired by California-based Active Network in a private equity-financed
transaction. An engineer/MBA, Ralph’s passion is developing the marketing and sales capabilities of entrepreneurial technologists. He is a highly-regarded speaker on the topic and is a hands-on angel investor and mentor who is active with the founders of numerous next-generation technology companies emerging on Canada’s west coast. In recognition of his business success and industry contributions he was named the B.C. Technology Industry Association’s “Person of the Year” in 2006. Ralph is currently the Chair of the Board of Redlen Technologies, a Yaletown portfolio company.
Ally Bharmal is a Partner in the business law group at Fasken Martineau DuMoulin LLP. His growing practice focuses on corporate and commercial business advice for a variety of clients, with an emphasis on the technology sector and the food and beverage sector.
Ally principally represents private companies on a wide range of transactions, including start-up and incorporation issues, preparation of shareholders’ agreements, debt and equity angel and venture capital financings, mergers and acquisitions, and advice with respect to ongoing business matters. Ally also advises on the commercial needs of his clients with respect to business and information technology matters, including licensing, promotional contests, website terms and conditions, development and outsourcing arrangements, distribution and representation agreements, and other matters.
Pankaj is active in local community. He is on the Board of Directors for Science World, and is past president and board member of TiE, Vancouver (The Indus Entrepreneurs), the world’s leading entrepreneurship organization. Pankaj also served on the Board of BCTIA, BC’s leading technology association, and contributes to TEDxKids@BC.
